Vikings enjoyed telling long, thrilling tales about adventures and battles. These stories, called sagas, told of great deeds done by legendary heroes.
Passed down from generation to generation, they give us much of the information we have about Viking culture and ideals.
Many stories described the adventures of the Viking god Thor and his powerful hammer. Thor was the god of thunder, and he protected Asgard, the home of the gods. Like a modern-day superman, Thor zipped through the sky – only he went around on a chariot pulled by goats.
