Vikings enjoyed sagas, or long, exciting tales of adventure and battle. These stories told of great deeds done by legendary heroes.
They were passed down from generation to generation. Sagas give us much of the information we have about Viking culture and ideals.
Many stories were about the adventures of the Viking god Thor and his powerful hammer. Thor was the god of thunder. He protected Asgard, the home of the gods. Thor zipped through the sky like a modern-day superhero, but he went around on a chariot pulled by goats.
