Imagine it’s the year 870 CE and you live in Norway, a freezing place where good farmland is hard to find. The fertile valleys that do exist are crowded. Food is scarce because another harsh winter has ruined the crops and starved or frozen the animals. What do you do?
Maybe you and your family would sail off in a trading ship, or knörr (k’nurr), to find a better place. You will travel through uncharted (not yet mapped) waters. The icy North Atlantic Ocean will be treacherous. But you will take the risk anyway. Even if you make it through this winter, the next one may be worse.
Where do you go, and what do you discover? You may be surprised to find out.
