The French and Indian War (1754–1763) has many names. French Canadians call it the War of the Conquest. That’s mostly because of the outcome of the war, which we’ll explore later in this unit.
Europeans call it the Seven Years’ War. That’s because it became connected to conflicts that lasted seven years in Europe and elsewhere around the world. And Quebecers might call it the Fourth Intercolonial Conflict. That’s because other conflicts had come before. The British colonists gave the war the name we in the U.S. use. And so it is. The French and Indian War.
