Imagine finding a buried treasure!
There are sunken treasures deep beneath the seas—gold, ceramics, statues, and minerals, for example. There are treasures hidden underground—entire cities, diamonds, and fossils. Treasures are buried beneath the pyramids. Treasures are hidden within caves. Treasures can also be found in your own backyard, attic, or neighborhood—antique clothing, letters from great-grandparents, vintage photographs, coins, and stamps.
The historic value of treasures is always great. A treasure offers a unique window into the civilization of its time. The monetary value of treasures, however, can vary greatly—from a few dollars to millions. Other treasures have such great personal value that a price tag cannot be put on them. This unit of Kids Discover highlights some treasures that were made by humans and then lost, either through natural disasters or through deliberate burial. However, there are many, many more treasures still waiting to be found—perhaps by someone just like you!
