The Rosetta Stone and Other Buried Treasures
Treasures are everywhere. Gold, ceramics, statues, and minerals are sunk beneath the seas. Diamonds, fossils, and whole cities are hidden underground. Treasures are buried below the pyramids. Treasures are hidden in caves. Treasures can even be found in your backyard, attic, or neighborhood. Those might be antique clothing, letters from great-grandparents, old photos, coins, or stamps.
Treasures are always worth a lot to historians. A treasure gives us a special view of the time it came from. But treasures may not be worth much money. Some may be worth millions, others only a few dollars. Still other treasures are important to one person. So important, a price tag cannot be put on them. This unit of Kids Discover looks at some treasures that were made by humans. Then they were lost, either due to disasters or after being hidden on purpose. However, there are still many more treasures to be found—perhaps by someone like you!
