A bush pilot is preparing to visit an Inupiaq village. The village is in northern Alaska. She’ll be delivering important supplies, like food and medical equipment, to an out-of-the-way area. There are very few roads there. Suppose someone needs to leave the village. A plane might be the only way out.
In Hawaii, a helicopter pilot welcomes a family of tourists. He’ll be taking them from Oahu to the Big Island. Along the way, the family will see the Kilauea volcano and lava fields. Views of craters and the ocean fill the sky. Planes and helicopters travel back and forth to different islands within the archipelago. (An archipelago is a group of islands.)
Life in Hawaii and Alaska is special for many reasons. Let’s explore these two amazing states. They are the newest states in our country.
