How would you react to a strong windstorm? Most people go inside their houses and shut the windows. Not John Muir. This Scottish-born man loved everything about nature. He decided he wanted to experience what a tree experiences in this kind of weather.
So, he climbed to the top of a very tall pine tree, clung tightly, and let the wind take him around in circles in the sky. He wasn’t afraid. Instead, he thought about the exciting sounds, the smell of pine, and the beautiful views of the Sierra Nevada.
John Muir became a well-known environmental activist. He helped convince President Theodore Roosevelt to set aside land for national parks. Without him, California’s Sequoia and Yosemite National Parks might not exist.
