Beavers use sticks, tree trunks, mud, and stones to build dams.
Dams block the flow of water in streams. Soon, the water deepens behind the dams, and a pond is formed.
In the middle of the pond, beavers build a home called a lodge. It is a big pile of sticks and mud that rises out of the water. Beavers go into the lodge through an underwater doorway.
Beavers use their flat tails to steer through the water. They also use them to balance when standing on their back legs. They slap their tails on the water to signal danger!
