A pond is home to many living things.
Some kinds of plants float in the water. Others grow on the muddy bottom. Big and small insects buzz and crawl around the pond. Birds and fish eat the plants and insects. Larger animals drink pond water. Some feed on the birds and fish. Many animals lay their eggs in the water. Some hide their babies in the tall grass on the sides of the pond. The animals and plants depend on each other for food and shelter. Together, they make up a community.
