People of many different cultures, or ways of life, make up the United States. We the people have brought customs and traditions from all over the world to this country.
The United States has a motto: E Pluribus Unum. These Latin words mean “Out of many, one.” The motto means that people from many cultures and countries have come to this vast land and united as one country. Despite differences in backgrounds, Americans are united by many things. We share patriotism, or love of country, and respect for our country’s ideals of freedom and justice for all. We appreciate our country’s natural beauty and its many historical monuments. We like to celebrate national holidays together.
