It is always warm and wet in a tropical rain forest. Almost every day it rains.
The rain makes the trees and plants grow big. Hidden among the thick tangle of trees and plants are many animals. Rain forests are home to more than half of the plant and animal types in the world. Some people live in rain forests, too.
The tallest trees make a huge green roof for the rain forest. This is called the canopy (CAN-uh-pee). The shorter trees and bushes are called the understory.
