On March 11, 2006, a tornado bore down on the St. Mary, Missouri, home of Rick Boland. “I was looking at my feet, and the floor was doing a wave-type thing,” he said.
“I couldn’t keep my balance. The power went out and it was pitch black. I heard windows blowing out, stuff smacking. It was like a big tidal wave hit the house.” Then the twister picked up Boland and his son and spun them around briefly. They landed 100 yards from their house—badly hurt, but lucky to be alive.
