California today is an exciting place to live.
We call people from the same country, race, or culture an “ethnic group.” In California, ethnic groups have brought their languages, dress, foods, religious beliefs, arts, and music. These diverse groups make California a multicultural state. They help to fuel California’s arts and culture.
Diversity has provided many benefits to California. But it has also created some challenges. Public education is one such challenge. How do you meet the needs of students from many different cultures, who speak many different languages? California has found a way. It is a model for the nation.
