California today is an exciting place to live.
We call people from the same country, race, or culture an “ethnic group.” In California, ethnic groups have brought their languages, dress, foods, religious beliefs, arts, and music. These diverse groups make California a multicultural state, helping to fuel California’s arts and culture.
While diversity has provided many benefits to California, it has also created some challenges. Public education is one such challenge. How do you meet the needs of students from many different cultures, who speak many different languages? California has found a way, making it a model for the nation.
