The people just kept coming! A new harbor, a new canal, and new movies coming out of California: As the 20th century continued, the state’s potential seemed endless.
Large projects were underway throughout the state to meet the needs of cities and towns as they grew. New resources were discovered. World War I only strengthened the economy. When hard economic times struck the country, people streamed into California. They knew about the state’s reputation for jobs and a good climate. They hoped to get lucky in the Golden State.
