Milk, almonds, grapes, beef, lettuce, strawberries, and tomatoes. What do these things have in common? Not only are they all foods. They’re all foods that you can find in homes across the country.
They have something else in common, too. These foods are some of California’s biggest farming exports. (Exports are products from one place that are sold in another place.) The farming industry grew quickly in California. (An industry is a collection of similar businesses.) The state’s fertile valleys made a natural home for large farms. The warmth and sunshine in much of the state made it possible to farm year-round.
