Imagine seeing bison (American buffalo) wandering through fields in New York State, jaguars sleeping in the shade of trees in North Carolina, or mountain lions stalking prey in Oklahoma.
These things are impossible today, but they weren’t in 1492. From 60 to 100 million buffalo once roamed the plains! However, there were no horses here then. They had become extinct a long time ago and would not be seen again until the Spaniards brought them over from Europe.
