Can you imagine seeing bison (American buffalo) walking through fields in New York State? How about jaguars sleeping under shady trees in North Carolina? Or mountain lions chasing prey in Oklahoma?
Today these things are just about impossible. But they were normal in 1492. From 60 to 100 million buffalo once roamed the plains! However, there were no horses on this continent back then. They’d all died out a long time ago. They came back when the Spaniards brought them over from Europe.
