Imagine seeing bison (American buffalo) walking through fields in New York State, jaguars sleeping in the shade of trees in North Carolina, or mountain lions chasing prey in Oklahoma.
You might think these things are impossible, and today, they are. But they weren’t in 1492. From 60 to 100 million buffalo once roamed the plains! But there were no horses on this continent then. They had all died out a long time ago. They wouldn’t be seen again on this landmass until the Spaniards brought them over from Europe.
