Snails, turtles, and crabs all take their houses everywhere they go. Some humans, called nomads, do the same. They have no permanent homes and stay on the move, usually bringing their portable homes with them.
Many nomadic peoples are herders who constantly seek new pastures for their animals. Others hunt or gather wild plants for sustenance. All nomads need shelters that are lightweight, small enough to carry, and easily packed and unpacked. Today, many families out to see the world have houses that are on the move. These trailers, RVs, and other mobile homes function as their homes away from home.
