From aardvarks to zebras, every living creature needs shelter. Birds build their nests. Beavers dam up streams to make lodges. Rabbits dig burrows. Turtles and snails carry their houses with them.
Humans also build shelters, in all kinds of places. We live up on mountaintops and also deep underground. Our houses come in every shape – circles, squares, triangles, rectangles, and domes. And in every size, from tiny one-room huts to giant palaces.
Humans have always needed shelter, ever since prehistoric people holed up in caves. Shelters keep people safe: from people, animals, and weather. They give us a place to keep our food and other things, and to rest and sleep.
Join Kids Discover as we go around the world and even back in time. We’ll visit the many kinds of structures people call “home.”
