There were two types of Plains villages. They were very different.
One type housed the nomadic tribes. These included the Blackfeet, Crow, Kiowa, and Comanche. They created temporary villages of tipis as they followed the buffalo herds. The other type was home to farming tribes. These were the Mandan, Hidatsa, Pawnee, and Osage, among others. They built permanent villages of earth lodges. When they went out on the Plains a few times a year to hunt buffalo, they took tipis.
