The two types of Plains villages were very different.
One housed the nomadic tribes, such as the Blackfeet, Crow, Kiowa, and Comanche. They created temporary villages of tipis as they followed the buffalo herds. The other was home to farming tribes, such as the Mandan, Hidatsa, Pawnee, and Osage. They built permanent villages of earth lodges. When they went out on the Plains a few times a year to hunt buffalo, they took tipis along.
