Crossword:
Our North American Neighbors
Our North American Neighbors is the perfect companion to How Americans Live. Its images and text provide an important overview of lands north and south of the U.S., including Canada, Mexico, Central America, and the islands of the Caribbean.
The journey through each “neighbor” is neatly organized into two parts – first geography, then history and culture, with each part offering essential highlights of the area. Appropriately, the journey through North America begins with maps of the world (showing the tectonic plates) and of North America, depicting our location relative to our neighbors. After this orientation, the journey begins.
Kids with present-day family members or ancestors from one of our neighbors will want to spend time examining the maps of the region that show the geographic proximity to – or distance from – their hometown. Future photographers will appreciate the stunning images of the Caribbean Islands, Mexico’s cenotes, the beaches and waterfalls of Mexico and Central America, and the polar region of Canada. Future travelers will be eager to explore the contemporary images of the communities to our north and south, while budding historians and archaeologists will want to spend time poring over the historic images of people and places important to our neighbors. The beginnings of geographic and cultural literacy begin here. Start now!
