This is a chance for kids to imagine themselves hosting a TV series about regions of the United States, with each region being a different episode. To begin, kids learn of the various regions they themselves are actually a part of, from geographic to political to economic.
Then they embark on a tour of the geographic regions of the U.S., beginning in the East. For each region, they discover the states in the region and explore highlights of its salient characteristics and historic importance. The states of each region are located and labeled on a map of the region, from the Northeast to the Southeast, the Midwest, the Southwest, and the West.
Kids will especially enjoy exploring their own region and regions where family members or friends may live. History fans will appreciate the many historic images and maps from important moments in the history of different regions, such as workers on a southern plantation, the Trail of Tears, and California’s iconic Hollywood sign. Future naturalists will want to spend time taking in the amazing images of places such as the Boundary Waters in the Upper Midwest and the deserts of the Southwest. Future writers will enjoy meeting a soulmate in the poetic narrative of writer and naturalist Sigurd Olson. It’s all here, in All About Regions. Time to get ready for the show!
