With the 1700s came change. Europeans arrived. They brought horses, guns, and diseases.
They squabbled over territory: Who wanted it? Who claimed it? Who had the rights to it? None considered the rights of the people already living there. In these early years, Indigenous peoples may have benefited from their contact with the Europeans. But they ended up paying a high price for it.
