Like the human world, the insect world has its vegetarians and its meat eaters.
Herbivores are animals that feed on plants. This can include chewing the leaves, sucking the sap, or eating the roots. Most insect herbivores are highly selective and choose only one type of plant. Carnivores feed on other animals, often other insects. Some species require very special diets, such as the termites that eat wood or the dung beetles that develop in animal droppings. Some are parasites and grow on or in the body of another, often killing it. The blood feeders are the most dangerous to people, because they spread diseases.
