The Ming Wall

Today, the Great Wall wouldn’t help much in a battle. But before tanks, planes, and grenades, it was a great defense.

It was more than a match for the weapons of old. Those included bows, arrows, spears, and swords. They were all carried by soldiers on foot or horseback. And there was more than just a wall. There were fortresses, watchtowers, and beacon towers. They were all part of the great structure that ran for thousands of miles.
