All over the world, scientists learn about animals by watching them.
By studying animals, scientists also learn about humans – who are, after all, part of the animal kingdom. For more than 60 years, Jane Goodall has studied chimpanzees in Africa.
When Goodall was a little girl, she had two dreams. One was to work with animals. The other was to travel to Africa. She had fallen in love with Africa while reading Tarzan and Doctor Doolittle stories. When she grew up, both of her dreams came true. She went to live at Gombe National Park in Tanzania, Africa, to study chimpanzees. Goodall hoped to make important discoveries about chimpanzees, the closest living animal relatives of humans.
