Dinosaurs lived on Earth millions of years ago. Then they died out. When there are no more animals of a kind living anywhere in the world, that animal is extinct.
When only a few are left, that animal is endangered. Today many animals are endangered. The greatest dangers to them come from humans. Because of humans, there’s less land for the animals to live on and more pollution in their habitats. Animals are hunted for their fur, feathers, skin, and more.
Humans are also their greatest hope. Many people are working hard to keep the animals safe. They’ve made national parks and wildlife refuges to protect them. They raise endangered animals in zoos, then release them back into the wild.
