The man was named Mausolus. He did not live to see it finished. But thanks to his giant tomb, people still remember him. That’s because we still use the word mausoleum, from his name, to describe a big tomb. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus stood for more than 1,500 years. An earthquake wrecked parts of it, and humans did the rest.
