While the American colonies fought with Britain, the rest of the world didn’t stand still. Explorers visited lands that people from Europe had never seen before.
In 1776, the kings and queens of European nations watched closely as the American upstarts took on the mighty British. France wanted to see its old enemy Britain lose. The rulers of Spain and Portugal also had American colonies. They feared the rebellion might inspire their colonists to fight for independence.
