Wetlands are full of living things. Each kind of wetland is home to plants and animals that are made to live there.
But no matter what kind of wetland it is, every living thing in it is always making or eating food. Plants make food. They use the Sun’s energy plus nutrients from the soil, water, and air. Some animals eat those plants. Other animals eat those plant eaters. This transfer of energy from Sun to plants to animals is called a food chain. Many different food chains are connected. So, all the plants and animals in any wetlands form a giant network that depends on all of them.
