How big could a wagon train be? In 1843, Dr. Marcus Whitman led 1,000 pioneers west in one group. They took the Oregon Trail, starting in Independence, Missouri. The group had more than a hundred wagons, plus 5,000 cattle. That’s a lot of people – and a lot of cows!
