“Cross that line, and you’re on my side of the room!”
If you share a room, have you ever made a line marking Yours and Mine?
Sometimes, borders get made because of a fight. Some countries and states were created a bit like that! Sometimes, though, places have natural features – like mountains, lakes, or rivers – that define them and group them into regions. A region is a place with at least one physical feature that makes it different from other places.
Geographers have used natural features to split the country into five regions. The states in each region may have the same climate and basic landforms. The country can be grouped in other ways, too. People and cultures form groups. The weather creates regions.
