Can you guess what “storm chasers” do?
You guessed it: they chase storms. They listen to weather forecasts. They watch the skies. They even take time off from work to do it. They hope to predict storms and tornadoes. When they think conditions are right for a tornado, chasers drive to the scene. They want to reach the storm before it develops.
Why would anyone chase a storm? Some do it for science. They get close-up pictures and videos of storms. These can help weather scientists. Some do it to warn people about storms. They may even save lives. And of course, some do it for the fun of the chase.
No matter why they do it, all chasers share one thing. That’s a respect for tornadoes. These huge storms are awesome. They’re also unpredictable!
