The Inland South states are rich in tradition and history. They include: West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Arkansas.
The first three are also called Appalachia because they’re in and around the Appalachian Mountains. Arkansas is home to the Ozark Mountains. In early colonial times, there were no roads in these mountains. Travel was slow and difficult. Transporting goods in and out was even harder.
How did the early settlers adapt? Well, they made most everything they needed. That included their homes, clothes, and furniture. Not to mention their own toys! They even made their own entertainment. They told stories and sang songs. They made instruments to play. They created their own culture, which lives on to this day.
