If you traveled back in time to the 1600s, who would you be? Would you be a Powhatan Indian, living on the coast of what will someday be Virginia?
If so, your days would be spent learning how to hunt and fish from your father. Or your mother would teach you how to farm and take care of the family. At night, your village would gather to tell stories, dance, and play drums.
Maybe you’d be a Cherokee. If so, you’d be living in a fertile river bottom in the Appalachian Mountains. The Cherokee believe mountain mists contain spirits. Your father would tell you wonderful myths to explain the mysteries of nature.
Perhaps you’d be an English settler who braved months at sea to start a new life. You’d help to build a settlement. You’d discover new things about the land. Whoever you imagine yourself to be, the years ahead will bring great change and adventure.
