The September 11 attacks resulted in 2,977 deaths and thousands of injuries.
This includes the attacks in Manhattan, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. It does not include the 19 hijackers. Thousands of small businesses in and near the World Trade Center were destroyed. The attacks caused $60 billion in damage to the site itself, including the subway that runs below it and nearby buildings and roads. Plus, $1 billion in damage to the Pentagon. Almost 2 million tons of debris had to be removed from Ground Zero.
The whole country was in shock.
