It’s easy to get yourself a bowl of cereal. But for a roboticist, that’s a complicated task. Think about everything that goes into it. You have to know a lot of information: you need a bowl, something to put in it, and a spoon to get the cereal into your mouth.
You must also be able to do certain things: to reach for an object, grasp and hold it, change the angle of the object, and more. But that’s not all. You have to be able to see objects around you. You need to figure out where they are and know when you’ve picked them up. Each of these things is a problem for roboticists to solve. How are they doing it? By developing artificial intelligence (AI), sensors, and actuators. These are the parts of a robot that make everything happen.
