Let’s say you want to make a bowl of cereal for yourself. You know you need a bowl, something to put in the bowl, and a spoon or other tool to get the cereal into your mouth.
You also need to be able to do certain things: reach for an object, grasp and hold the object, change the angle of the object, and more. But to do all that, you need to be able to see objects in the environment. You have to be able to find their location and sense their presence after you pick them up. Each bit of information, each task, and each ability represents a problem for roboticists to solve. How are they doing it? By developing artificial intelligence (AI), sensors, and actuators. These are the parts of a robot that make everything happen.
