What is an ecotourist? You could say it is a person who is sensitive to the environment of the place they’re visiting.
An ecotourist tries to have little or no impact on local plants and wildlife. This behavior also includes the thoughtful treatment of native peoples. An ecotourist treats such people with courtesy. He or she respects their rights and customs. An ecotour may focus on the people and culture of an area as much as it looks at the flora and fauna.
A typical day on an ecotour may include bird-watching and a canoe ride. It could include a visit to a native village to see how the people live. There might be a meal of native foods. A native guide might lead a long, slow walk on a jungle trail. He or she would help the ecotourists get a closer look at the rain forest. Finally, the day would end with an early sleep in a hammock or under a sleeping net.
