Almost everything the Europeans did was bad for the Plains Indians.
As more and more people filled the eastern U.S., settlers moved west. They fenced in areas where buffalo and Plains peoples had roamed freely. The United States kept making treaties with Plains nations. It also kept breaking them. The Indians were pushed onto smaller and smaller pieces of land. In a short time, the Plains Indians lost their homes. They also lost their way of life.
