To land creatures like us, the ocean doesn’t seem like a great place to live.
In the water, you can’t ride a bike, bake a pizza, or even breathe. To us, the ocean is just something that surrounds life on land. Mostly it supports life on land, and sometimes it threatens it.
But the ocean is a whole world in itself, and to ocean creatures, the land is as unfriendly as the water can seem to us. To them, the ocean is home sweet home.
Fish, sponges, sea anemones, and coral are among the many kinds of animals that live in the ocean. So are crustaceans. Those are creatures that live in shells, such as crabs, shrimp, and lobsters.
Among the mammals of the water are dolphins, porpoises, and manatees. They breathe air, like land animals, and so they must go to the surface to breathe. Reptiles of the sea include sea turtles and sea snakes. They also have to surface to breathe.
