Most facial muscles are like stretchy sheets that fit over your skull, fat, and cartilage. Cartilage is the tough tissue that forms your nose, outer ear, and other body parts. Many facial muscles don’t attach to bone. They attach to other muscles, or to skin. That’s even more true of the muscles that help you make expressions.
