It is not easy living in the mountains. Air is thinner and harder to breathe at higher altitudes. That’s why climbers attempting to scale (climb) Earth’s tallest peaks may bring canisters of oxygen with them.
Mountain weather is cool and windy. Most of the conveniences and entertainments of modern life are far away. Supplies are also far away and have to be carried long distances up the slopes, sometimes on the backs of people or animals. In spite of all the difficulties, throughout history, people around the world have chosen to work and live in mountainous areas. Often, they make their living farming, fishing, or herding.
