By the time Mark Twain got married, he was well known and well off. He and Olivia (Livy) adored each other, and she nicknamed him Youth.
Although their only son died young, they took great delight in their three daughters: Susy, Clara, and Jean. But despite a successful writing career that made him world famous, Twain was dogged by financial problems for many years. When those were finally settled, his later years were marked by family tragedies.
