New weapons and ways of fighting made knights less important. By the 1300s, horses weren’t used as much in warfare.
Instead, armies of foot soldiers fought each other. They had new weapons to put holes in armor. Kings and nobles paid common people to fight their wars and guard their castles.
The days of knights and castles may be gone. But they are not forgotten. Have you ever read a story about a knight killing a dragon? Have you ever seen a painting of a magic castle? Ever heard the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table? Knights are still the main players in board games, card games, and even video games. Also, no matter how small your home or apartment may be, it is still your “castle.”
