It is 321 BCE in northern India. Chandragupta Maurya has conquered the great Magadha kingdom and helped to drive the Greeks out of India. Now that Alexander the Great has died, Chandragupta has taken control of much of the Punjab region in the far north.
For the first time, a large area of India has been united under one ruler. Chandragupta has founded the Maurya Empire. He will go on to expand his empire by conquering other kingdoms and republics. Chandragupta’s son and grandson will continue to expand the Maurya Empire until, by around 250 BCE, it will cover nearly all of the Indian subcontinent.
